HomeNewsHayek Prize Awarded To Professor Geoffrey Brennan
Hayek Prize awarded to Professor Geoffrey Brennan
Wednesday 29 January 2014

The School of Philosophy congratulates Geoff Brennan on being the 2014 recipient of the Hayek medal. There are two medals given out each year -- one to a scholar for academic distinction, the other to a journalist (or occasionally someone else in public life who is seen to have some Hayek association). Geoff's is the scholar's award for academic distinction.

The medal was established in 1999 by the German Hayek Society in the same year as the Society was founded -- in honour of Friedrich Hayek, Nobel Laureate. The scholar's award recognizes distinguished scholarly contribution in areas that are seen to connect with Hayek's own work, and especially his concern with the idea of a free society. Previous recipients of the scholar's award include two Nobel Laureates in Economics -- Gary Becker (2003) and Vernon Smith (2008). The award itself will be made in Freiburg Germany in June this year.
