Passmore Endowment for Graduate Students

The School of Philosophy will be making available small grants of up to $5,000 to support graduate students in the furtherance of their research.  This is in addition to the money normally made available to PhD students.

To be eligible you need to be currently enrolled full or part-time in the Philosophy PhD program and have obtained your ethics clearance.

Grants are available for:

  • International travel support to attend and present a paper at a conference;
  • Travel to Australia to work on your thesis in the final stages before submission and actual submission of your thesis


Conference funding

Applications should not exceed an A4 single-spaced page and include information on the conference, confirmation of acceptance of a paper from the conference organiser and an indicative budget.  The budget should also show how the extra funds link into the planned use of other funding.

Thesis preparation and submission

Applications should not exceed an A4 page including information of proposal to return to Australia, proposed submission date and date of travel, reason why you need to return to Australia and amount of funding requesting.

Note:  Mention of the Passmore scholarship must also be made in the final version of your thesis.


All awarded amounts will be posted on our website.  Applications need to be submitted to the contact at least a month before travel for consideration.
