Philosophy at RSSS

The history of Philosophy at RSSS goes back to the foundation of the ANU in the 1940s.  For a short history, see the entry under ‘Australian National University, Research School of Social Sciences’ written by Robert E. Goodin, Frank Jackson, Michael Smith and Daniel Stoljar in A Companion to Philosophy in Australia and New Zealand, Graham Oppy, N.N.Trakakis (eds), Monash University Publishing 2010.  You can access this article here.

In 2010, the ANU decided to disband its faculty of arts, and in consequence the RSSS absorbed the quite distinct philosophy program that up to that point existed in the faculty of arts, including its undergraduate teaching responsibility. For a short history of the Philosophy Program in the Faculty of Arts, at ANU, see the entry under ‘Australian National University, Faculty of Arts’, written by Richard Campbell in A Companion to Philosophy in Australia and New Zealand, Graham Oppy, N.N.Trakakis (eds), Monash University Publishing 2010.
