Vincent Lam (Queensland): "Physics and metaphysics of ontic structural realism"

The 'traditional' conception of nature (e.g. from Aristotle to Einstein and Lewis) considers the world as being made up of independently existing entities that possess some intrinsic identity and individuality and that stand in relations to one another. It has been claimed that current fundamental physics (in particular quantum theory and the theory of general relativity) challenges this conception of nature. This talk aims to review some aspects of this challenge and their possible metaphysical implications.
